Starting this week (10/23), unprepared and behavior letters will be sent home for parents to sign. In an effort to keep the line of communication open, this is a chance for me to give updates to you on how your children are performing in phys ed. Many of you will not be receiving a letter. I do teach approximately 1200 students and this week I will be sending out 15 behavior letters and 5 unprepared letters. If you receive a behavior letter please sign it and have your child return it to me. I do keep a log as to who I send letters home to so please get them back to me in a timely manner. At the bottom of the letter you will have the opportunity to write your phone number and request that I give you a call to discuss the matter further. If a second letter needs to be sent home, you will be receiving a phone call from me. The unprepared slips get sent home to students that have 2 unprepared's in the current marking period. This has a tremendous impact on your child's grade especially because we only have physical education once per week. Students are required to wear sneakers on days of gym no matter what the weather. Examples of exceptions include but are not limited to picture day. As always, thank you everyone for your continued support. It takes a village and please know that I am always here to answer any questions you may have. Thank you and hopefully I will see you soon!
Hello parents I hope this message finds you well. Our school year is well underway and we are already into the middle of October. As many of you are aware, this week is picture week at PS 229. There have been many concerns with the students regarding being un-prepared for gym classes. This week because of pictures, students will not be marked as unprepared for gym classes. Our lesson is specifically geared towards students not being able to move around because of the uncomfortable clothing they are wearing to physical education class. We will be focusing on lifetime activities which are activities that you can play no matter your age or athletic ability. The two that we are focusing on this week are Bocce Ball and Cup-stacking. Thank you everyone for you continued support and please check back soon for the next update!
All students in grades 1-5 are currently participating in the PACER test. The PACER is apart of the Fitnessgram. Below are the directions that your child hears at the start of the test. It is pre-recorded and plays over the speakers in the gymnasium...
The FitnessGram Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 15 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal bodeboop. A single lap should be completed every time you hear this sound. ding Remember to run in a straight line and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark. Get ready!… Start. ding
On Wednesday September 13th, our school will be hosting parent engagement night. This is an opportunity for any parents to come between the hours of 430-730 and meet with their child's teacher. I will be in the gymnasium so please feel free to stop by and say hello. I will be discussing topics including curriculum, expectations, communication and it will also be a time for you to ask any questions related to physical education. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all parents and students in the PS 229 community back to the 2017-2018 school year! I look forward to working with you and your children. This is a blog area where I will post updates on what we are doing in class and anything related to our physical education program at PS 229! Thank you for visiting my website and I am excited about having this new form of communication.
