MOVE TO IMPROVE - MTI

Physical movement stimulates academic success by helping students to be alert and have the energy to learn. Move-to-Improve is a free classroom-based physical activity program that helps elementary school teachers enhance their lessons with activities that get students moving.

Designed in collaboration with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Move-to-Improve activities have become an integral part of elementary classrooms, with more than 11,000 elementary school teachers trained since 2012, and 140 “All-Star” schools as of the 2016-17 school year. Schools are eligible for All-Star status when a majority of their classroom teachers use the program in classrooms as part of, and in addition to, a comprehensive physical education program.

This past week, I was certified as a trainer and will be training the staff at PS 229 to incorporate MTI into their lessons.  Amongst other benefits, this will be adding to the students' minutes per week towards physical education by 40 minutes! This will be in addition to the 45 minutes that they receive already with me.

I am looking forward to helping to implement this program within our school community.  Be sure to ask your children what they think about it over the next few months!
